Due to the closure of General Motors and other area businesses, Rock County’s unemployed are grappling with new technologies in their search for employment and training. Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) seeks to bridge this “connection” gap by collecting the stories of displaced workers as they acquire online job seeking and social networking skills. With support from a grant from PBS’ Frontline “Digital Nation” program, WPT is documenting workers’ learning processes as they engage with new technologies, sharing these stories online, and creating a forum for displaced workers to connect with each other. The project is offering others from Wisconsin and the nation the chance to learn from their stories and contribute to the conversation by sharing stories of their own on the web.
